RTS/CTS sequence is skipped for data frames having length less than the threshold value.

• RTS/CTS sequence helps to reduce collisions. However, it also causes delay and consumes channel resources.

• Therefore, the wireless station uses RTS/CTS sequence to reserve the channel only for the transmission of a long DATA frame.

• Each wireless station sets an RTS threshold. Wireless station uses an RTS/CTS sequence, only when the frame is longer than the threshold value.

The statement, “It is necessary to send an RTS frame first and receive a corresponding CTS frame before an 802.11 station transmits a data frame” is False.
