The data link layer (Layer 2) of the OSI model consists of two sublayers: 

The Media Access Control (MAC) sublayer and the Logical Link Control (LLC) sublayer. 

  • The MAC sublayer controls device interconnection. 
  • The LLC sublayer deals with addressing and multiplexing.
