Suppose a friend of you from another university wants to learn about Computer Networks. He/ She read about routing, circuit switching, packet switching etc. He also came to know that “Circuit Switching was particularly designed for voice communication but it was less suitable for data transmission”. But this statement is not clear to him. He came to you for understanding it. You are a brilliant student; he believes that you can explain it. Now help your friend to understand, why circuit switching is not suitable for data transmission and give him a better solution for data transmission.

Circuit switching, which is set up at the physical layer, sends the entire message through the dedicated channel. This type of switching isn’t ideal for data transmission because data is sent and received in streams, meaning the line would remain idle in between transmission spurts which would result in a waste of bandwidth.

Instead of circuit switching, packet switching would be better.
