The following are the elements found in the page table entry:

1. Present bit (P)

2. Modified bit (M)

3. Other control bits

4. Frame number

Present bit (P):

• This bit is used to indicate whether the corresponding page is in the main memory or not.

• If this bit is set to 1, it indicates that the corresponding page is in the main memory.

• If this bit is set to 0, it indicates that the corresponding page is not in the main memory.

Modified bit (M):

• This bit is used to indicate whether the corresponding page that is in the main memory has been modified or not.

• This bit helps in taking decision whether to write the page at the time of replacement of the page in the frame.

• If this bit is set to 1, then it is necessary to write the page as the page is modified.

• If this bit is set to 0, then it is not necessary to write the page.

Other control bits:

• Control bits include protection bit, security bit etc.

• When page level protection and security is managed, then these bits are used.

Frame number:

• It refers to the page number of the page in main memory.
