To explain alternative logic gates:

These refer to the logic gates that are formed from the combination of the standard single logic gates. The complex logic gates formed from these combinations are called combinational logic gates or alternative logic gates. The available combinational logic gates are: Buffer, NAND, NOR, XOR, and XNOR.

An alternative logic gate can be described as a substitute logic gate that gives the same output as the original logic gate, they made for when the original logic gate is unavailable. They are gotten from the NAND, OR, AND,NOR and NOT gate.
