For RAM it doesn’t retain its information when power is lost (volatile)

Whereas NVRAM retains data even when power is lost(non-volatile)

Uses

RAM

  • used in general purpose computers
  • in cache to store info that needs to be used quickly when PC is running

NVRAM

  • in real time systems(embedded systems)
  • network equipments to store configuration details (switches, routers)
  • computer BIOS
