Data dependency can be described as when a program output is required as input for another program, often known as read after write. It can be expressed as x= 3 and Y = x.  In a database, this is when data stored in a table uniquely identifies other data within the same table in the database. The concept of a primary key/foreign key relationship can be said to be an implementation of data dependency.
