A soft problem can be explained as a real life situation or real world problem, they usually cannot be solved using a formula, or a defined means to achieving a defined end, and they vary based on the perception of the respective viewers.

A hard problem is well defined, well structured and can mostly be solved by an application of a formula or a design.
