The types of semaphores we have are:

  • Binary Semaphores:  In binary semaphores, the variable value of the semaphore is either 0 or 1. The value is usually set to 1, and if a process wants to use a resource the wait( ) function will be called, which then sets it to 0.
  • Counting Semaphores: In this type of semaphore unlike the binary semaphore, the value of the variable is set to the number of available resources, then as process request and use them, the number decreases.
