Major difference between a bit and byte is in their size. A byte is made up of 8 bits and hence bigger than a bit. A bit is also the smallest unit of data measurement and is either 1 or 0, while a byte has the capacity to store up to 256 distinct unit.
An example of a byte can be a random letter such as the letter "h": This is stored in byte.
