When it comes to deadlock there are numerous mechanism and algorithm that are put in place to help. These methods can be widely broken down into, the deadlock prevention techniques and the deadlock avoidance technique, there is also the deadlock detection and recover process. All these various process have their different algorithms put in place that can be useful, but one of the common methods used by the UNIX is the Ostrich algorithm, which simply refers to allowing the deadlock to occur, so assuming the deadlock only occurs once in forever then let it be, reboot as required and continue the process, this method generally goes for the concept of "pretend its not there".
