A continuous time signal(CT) is one that is defined for all time t contained in some interval on the real line. This simply means that a CT will have a value every instant of time. Examples of CT include temperature, pressure, sound, etc. 

A discrete time signal on the other hand is occurring at distinct separate points in time.  The word discrete can be explained as having a correspondence between itself and N the set of natural numbers. 

s(n) = s(nD)

Key differences 

  • Discrete time is gotten from continuous time signals 
  • Discrete time signals are finite from point to point, continuous is infinite
