If a thread does not yield or sleep, thereby giving other threads the opportunity to run, it is known as a selfish thread. Sleep here refers to be thread becoming inactive for a few milliseconds. Yield refers to the giving up of the CPU so other threads can run. A selfish thread could lead to starvation of other threads with lower priority.
