hardwired control unit is a combinatorial circuit, in which input logic signals are transformed into a set of output logic signals that function as the control signals. In a microprogrammed control unit, the logic is specified by a microprogram. A microprogram consists of a sequence of instructions in a microprogramming language. These are very simple instructions that specify micro-operations.
